Totally. I've never seen any specific details or data, but I have to imagine that has an impact. Not that some serious maintenance wouldn't help, but there's only so much you can do. I wonder if that's why you don't see many wooden coasters in the UK. Outside the classic collection at Blackpool, the only one I've heard of any significance is Megafobia.

That is pretty much it. Maintaining a wooden coaster over here is hellish. The people who owned Dreamland in the 80's estimated that the Scenic Railway was probably pretty much re-built over a period of around 8 years due to the amount of wood that needed replacing at the start of each season from various sections.

Wow, that's nuts. I've heard that our woodies get rebuilt every 20 or 30 years.

Bring a rain mack with you when you visit Alton Towers. There is a 80% chance it will rain no matter what time of year you visit. We are now in July, middle of summer, and its chucking it down outside laugh.gif

QUOTE
My favorite ride is the Chaos.

Hmm, other ride I think twice before riding. I love a good Chaos, but have you been on a Power Surge (Zamperla). It's essentially an inverted Chaos.

As far as these carnival style rides, nothing beats a Zipper. The Zipper is absolutely exhilarating! Can you describe Power Surge? That's my dream ride!
